City of Gottschee Prior to 1941

This view of the city shows the center area of the city, with the Catholic Church slightly to the left
of the center in the photograph. The Rinse River runs by the side of the church. In this photo, the
main entrance to the church faces the street. One block up from the church, on the right side of the
street, is the Auersperg castle, which was destroyed during World War II. A shopping center was
later constructed on the site. The church was not harmed during the bombing and was recently
renovated.
