Schaflein (Ovcjak) prior to 1941

In 1770, this mountain village in the forest had 11 homes. The school for primary grades was
established in 1883. Students from other mountain villages attended the school. Schäflein
was in the parish of Nesseltal and the inhabitants went to the parish church in the town of Nesseltal.
Most of the families owned vineyards in the village of Maierle (Maverle). The village was destroyed
during World War II, as were most of the mountain villages. In the 1990s, foundation ruins of the
homes were still visible as well as one wall of the school building. In the late 1990s, it was difficult
to find any ruins, as the trees and plants of the forest covered the area of what once was a village.
